AAC Summer Camp 2007 Duty to God patch program.

Requirements (to be done at Summer Camp):

  1. Attend a worship service while at Summer Camp.

  1. Do any two of the following:

    1. Lead a meal-time prayer at the dining hall for the entire assembly.

    1. Lead a patrol or troop prayer during a time of patrol or troop daily devotions.

    1. Lead daily devotions for the patrol or troop, using either the devotional material provided at registration or any other appropriate resource.  Note that even though the meditations have numbers, you don’t have to do them in numerical sequence, and you don’t have to do all of them.

    1. Talk about religion with a Scout of another faith and identify one similarity or one difference between that Scout’s faith and your own faith.

    1. Attend a Chaplain Aide training session.

    1. Do another appropriate religious activity approved by the Summer Camp chaplain.

  1. Participate in a service project.  This requirement can include the unit’s “normal” summer camp service project.

  1. Make sure your unit’s Chaplain Aide has a copy of the Religious Emblems Brochure to take home for use by the unit throughout the year.

  1. When your Chaplain Aide certifies that you have completed these requirements, you may purchase the “Duty to God” patch at the trading post.

Notes:

This patch is available to all campers and adult leaders of camping units.  In the future we may make it available to camp staff, but camp staff would have a different set of requirements.

Certification of completion of the requirements will be the responsibility of the Troop or Crew Chaplain Aide.

When a Troop or Crew checks into camp, Chaplain Aides will be given copies of this devotional booklet for each member of the unit in camp and a simple form on which to certify those members of the unit who have earned the patch.

During the week there will be a chaplain-led training session on the duties of the Chaplain Aide.  The syllabus will focus on the responsibilities of unit Chaplain Aides throughout the year, not on the specific summer camp responsibilities.  This training session will be open to all Scouts in camp, because leadership responsibilities rotate among unit members, and any Scout might become a Chaplain Aide in the future.  This training session will not last more than 30 minutes.  NOTE:  In addition to this training session, the Chaplain may have a time to give specific orientation to Scouts who are going to assist in the Summer Camp worship services.  These two sessions are not to be confused with each other.  The list of requirements makes no reference to orientation to participation in the worship service.
